According to Organic Energy, Stainless steel is the material of choice for hot water plumbing. The combination of heat and water corrodes lesser materials such as mild steel and copper, and - particularly in areas with acidic water - copper cylinders will fail in 10 years or less. The second major OSO advantage is the ability to offer hot water at mains pressure. This type of unvented hot water system allows taps and showers to provide full mains-pressure water flow rates without the need for a secondary pump, thus reducing the system's electrical demand and avoiding future maintenance problems.
An OSO water cylinder is a truly high quality stainless steel hot water cylinder, certified in the UK for solar hot water applications. Some other cylinders have smaller solar heat exchanger coils or inferior capacities, meaning that no matter how efficient your solar collector is, the system as a whole will never realise the full heating potential of the sun's energy.
